The Wisdom Path Situated on the
south east of Ngong Ping is a monument to the people of Hong Kong. It is given
to them by professor Jan Tsung-i.
With the words of the Heart
Sutra, the monument consists of 38 timber inscribed columns. These timber
columns are set out in a figure of eight and between 8 and 10 meters high.
The Buddhist stone carving on
mount Taisham in Shandong was discovered by Professor Jan Tsung-i while on his
trip to china. You can visit this during your Lantau Tours Hong Kong.
As this sutra is by Buddhists,
Taoist and Confucians considered a treasure, he set about to create a
calligraphic work of the Heart Sutra Inspired by the carvings.
Used by Buddhists, the Heart
Sutra is a pray, it is believed to be the main one although it is one of many. Prajna-Paramita
heart sutra is the full title of the sutra, which is a Sanskrit term. The word
Paramita describes perfection and the word Prajna describes wisdom.
We have the perfection and wisdom
and heart (Buddha). "The Perfection of Wisdom of the Buddha" is what
the title reads. Each column has a selection of that prayer and this is the
prayer of the Sutra.
Heart Sutra is the shortest at
only 260 words and is the best written Mahayana Sutra. Du to the profound
doctrine as its readings are in very difficult one will find it very difficult
to understand the Heart Sutra. You will be able to find the Secret of the
Universe by persistent meditation and reading. You just have to find it to
truly understand.
Apart from Lantau, the Airport Layover Tour in Hong Kong is also awesome.
Not square or any other position,
the columns are set out in a figure of eight. The figure of eight on its side
adheres to the landscape they are set out as well in such a way.
There is no inscription in the
single column at the top. This is because the word Sunyatta written in the
Sutra, which means emptiness. So the column means emptiness.
